Pleasant Valley students ready to be fair queen

On Sunday Aug. 21 at 3 p.m. fair-goers can help kick off the celebration of the 100 Anniversary of the West End Fair and the Queen’s Coronation on the main stage.

The two Pleasant Valley students are 16-year-old Brianna Shupp who was chosen fair princess last year and first time entrant, 18-year-old Sophia Alcamo.

To qualify, the girls have to fill out an application and they must be involved in agriculture and either work with live stock or chickens or farming and work to find ways to introduce others to ways to promote agriculture.

“The girls are given a question and they must answer the question in essay form,” said Krista Lynn Wawrzynski, who is a former West End Fair Queen. She recently took over the responsibility to be in charge of the Queen’s Coronation.

This year’s question is “Why should people come to the fair?”

Brianna Shupp enjoys being outside.
Sophia Alcamo spends some quality time with her goat.
