Palmerton woman remembered

Friends shared memories of a Palmerton woman who died in an early-morning fire Tuesday morning.

Robin Wisocky, 61, was found on the second floor of the 131 Columbia Ave home.

Grace Freeman, who serves as the director of nursing at The Palmerton, said Wisocky was beloved by everyone.

“I’ve never met anybody who was so caring, and just made this her second home,” Freeman said. “She loved the residents; they loved her. She was really close with her co-workers.”

Freeman said that Wisocky started at The Palmerton on Jan. 27. Before that, she was employed as a hostess in dietary at St. Luke’s Hospital. She had been employed since 1984.

Maryann Orach, of Summit Hill, said Wisocky was like a second mom to her.

“I’ve been best friends with her son (Joshua Jones) since elementary school,” she said. Her husband, Stephen Orach III, worked with Wisocky since 1992.

“Robin was more than a friend and a co-worker, she was family,” Orach said.

“She had a way to always make you laugh, no matter the situation. I know everyone that knows her feels a tremendous loss of a wonderful person.” Orach said. “She will be truly missed.”

Her neighbor Jen Rowden said Wisocky “shared with me that she cared for her elderly parents before they passed away and she loved her home.”

The home was originally her parents’ home.

“She said she could never see herself living anywhere but in that family home,” Rowden said.

Borough fire Chief Jason Behler said the fire broke out after 5:30 a.m. at the twin duplex at 131 Columbia Ave. The other side of the duplex also had extensive damage.

Behler said that state police fire marshals arrived on scene to conduct an investigation.

Carbon County Coroner Bob Miller said Wisocky’s cause of death is carbon monoxide toxicity, and ruled it an accidental death.
