Palmerton news for Aug. 10, 2022

Faith Alive Church

Faith Alive Church 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown), holds two services each Sunday with Pastor Rob Timlin. At 8:30 a.m. is the contemporary service followed by Sunday school for all ages at 9:45 a.m. and then traditional service at 11 a.m. You can worship in person or in the parking lot by tuning the radio station to 104.3 FM or Facebook Live.

Every Wednesday at 7 p.m. is prayer and praise.

Events for August:

Aug. 16 at 10 a.m. The Quilting Group meets, bring an antique quilt or square to share.

Aug. 14, 21, 28, is a new Sunday school series for Contemporary Adult Class called “Your Move” with leader Sam Heiney. All adults are welcome to this class.

Sign up is all month until Aug. 28 for tickets to attend the 25th anniversary celebration of our church. This special celebration is free, but you need to order a ticket to attend on Sept. 17 from 4-7 p.m.

Missions for August:

ABC Food Pantry, started by Faith Alive in April of 2019.

The desire is to help our church families and others in our community.

Donated foods or paper products can be dropped off in the lobby by the office or monetary gifts can be put in the mission envelopes and placed in the weekly offering.

Micah’s Backpack Program is starting to collect food items for the 2022-23 school year. This program helps the needy students of the Palmerton School District. A list of food items needed are found on the church website.

Band concert

The band concert in the Palmerton Borough Park on Aug. 14 will be by the Pennsylvania Villagers beginning at 6:30 p.m. weather permitting. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket.

The following Sunday, Aug. 21, will be by the Palmerton Band. Please notice the August time change.

Annual Jerusalem UCC Community Picnic

Jerusalem United Church of Christ 545 Church Drive, Trachsville will hold its annual Community Church Picnic this Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. in the church grove. Rain date is Aug. 14.

Music is by the Main Street Cruisers and they will perform at 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Great food is available for purchase and at noon the church ladies and gentlemen will be ready to serve and greet you.

The free Kiddie cake walk and games will start at 1 p.m.

A Corn Hole Tournament will be at 3 p.m.

While there check out the Tricky Tray and raffle ticket drawings. The drawings will be at 9 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m. will be Trachsville’s Legendary Cake Walk.

Bring a lawn chair and spend the day. You will enjoy great food, great fun, and great entertainment.

Jerusalem UCC

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, holds Sunday worship service in the picnic grove at 9 a.m. You can also remain in your vehicle in the parking lot and listen to the service on radio station 95.5 or watch live on Facebook. The service is also posted on the website after the service has concluded.

This Sunday the Rev. Marion Johnson, candidate for new pastor, will preach a trial sermon. Immediately following the service, Doug Lander from Penn Northeast Conference will conduct a vote to confirm acceptance of Johnson.

Pastor Marion will also be present at the church picnic the day prior, so this will be a great opportunity to meet her and get to know a bit about her.

Holy Trinity Lutheran

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton will hold worship on Sunday at 10:15 a.m. If you plan to attend, call the church office at 610-826-2525. It you are unable to attend in person, you may join on Zoom. Communion will be served. Please remember to bring food items for the CACPAC Food Pantry.

The festival is Sept. 9, 10 and 11. This year Holy Trinity will be selling molasses tongue cookies, mini cheesecakes, and mint tea. There are sign-up sheets in the narthex for baking and working in the stand.

Basket raffle

The annual Palmerton Area Library basket raffle starts Aug. 8 and runs until Sept. 10. Drawing will be Sept. 12. The raffle will include a variety of baskets contributed by the Board of Directors and library staff.

Library Board of Directors

The Palmerton Area Library Board of Directors meets the third Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.

Palmerton Rolling Cruise 2022

The Palmerton Rolling Cruise hosted by The Pace-Makers Association will be held Saturday in the Palmerton Borough Park. The event schedule is 1-3 p.m. stage cars for cruise. Nobody will be staged before 1 p.m. and all Cruise Cars must have a window sticker. From 3-4 p.m. will be Rolling Cruise 2022. From 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. will be entertainment by the Large Flowerheads.

Proceeds benefit area recreation.

Carnival Day

Carnival Day will be held at Little Bombers Daycare, 180 Delaware Ave., Palmerton on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Events include a Basket Raffle, 50/50 Tickets, Dunk Tank, Bake Sale, Bounce House. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Event is hosted by Little Bombers staff. Come see what Little Bombers is all about.

Line dancing

The Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Co., 259 Ore St., Bowmanstown will host line dancing on Saturday at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public.
