Sunday worship with Holy Communion at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., begins 9:30 a.m. Holy Communion is served by continuous line with wafer placed in your open hand, and wine or grape juice in a small cup. Gluten-free wafers are available to those with allergy issues. The Rev. Nancy Moore presides. Vicar Sarah Moore assists.

Included during the worship time is presentation of scholarship awards to college bound students and seminarians. There will be Commemoration of Florence Nightingale with blessing of medical and EMS personnel present on Sunday morning. Vicar Sarah Moore’s one-year internship comes to a close. There will be farewell and Godspeed to her before she returns to the United Lutheran Seminary campus, Gettysburg.

The Trinity Thrift Store is open without reservations. Shopping and drop-off hours are Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donation drop-offs are accepted during store hours, limited to five bags or boxes. The Food Pantry continues to be open Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (and third Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m.) with an outdoor drive-up setting and precautionary measures in place. Residents in need who reside in the Lehighton Area School District are eligible to receive prepackaged supplemental food items. Participants must remain in their vehicle at time of pick up. Pantry volunteers will assist pedestrians/those not in vehicles.

For those desiring to schedule a baptism or seek membership at Trinity, please contact the church office to register for the 11:30 a.m. instruction sessions for August. Baptismal class will not be held in August. Overview for prospective new members is held on the fourth Sunday with Pastor Moore.

Trinity Lutheran Church was built in 1873. Plans are forming to celebrate this milestone throughout 2023. You are invited to contribute ideas at a planning meeting following worship Aug. 21.

A note regarding the status of the Illini4000 bike team pedaling across America raising awareness and funds for cancer research. They had a stopover in Lehighton in late May, at 129 miles on their route. The team reached their destination, San Francisco, over the past weekend. After 75 days, they pedaled 4,600 miles, and raised $130,000.

An update on 2017-19 Trinity Vicar Richard Bergen: he accepted a call and is serving St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 470 Church Hill Road, Ferndale, Southeastern PA synod. He will be ordained Sept. 10, 10 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 W. Main St., Lansdale, PA, 19446. Bishop Patricia Davenport presides. There is ample parking. Transportation is on your own. However, if you do plan to go, please RSVP in advance at Trinity, Lehighton, for the host church to be aware.
