JT Rotary wrapping up summer rec, looking to fall

The Jim Thorpe Rotary Club and community partners (the SHINE Program, Jim Thorpe Area School District, Borough of Jim Thorpe, Mauch Chunk Trust, Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank, Penn Forest Township, Jim Thorpe Lions, Thrivent Financial, and Brandywine Transportation) are finishing its eight week Summer Recreation program.

Serving the community for the past 26 years, the program, including food, is entirely free for all children attending.

Rotary members are proud to support a program that provides physical fitness, STEAM activities, crafts, lunch and a lot of fun.

The average daily attendance this summer has been 60 to 70 and over 125 children have signed up for the camp. The program will provide approximately 2,000 meals.

The Summer Recreation program is just one of the many programs/activities supported by the Jim Thorpe Rotary Club.

High school scholarships for students from Jim Thorpe, CCTI and Marian High, K-8th grade grants for teachers, holiday giving for over 100 children, Rotary Student of the Month, CCTI Interact Club, GED testing support, along with donations to local food banks, Carbon County Friends of Animals, Bloodmobile and twenty-plus local organizations.

The club has invested in the international community by purchasing a Shelter Box for a Ukraine family.

They have contributed funding for the eradication of polio and supported the Rotary International Foundation (worldwide immunizations, disaster relief, combating hunger etc.)
