Albrightsville man sentenced to state prison term on drug-dealing charge

An Albrightsville man was sentenced to a state prison term on Thursday in Carbon County court after pleading guilty to a drug-dealing charge.

Joshua Peter Correll, 31, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve 33 to 120 months in a state correctional institution on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-methamphetamine.

Correll is currently an inmate at the state prison in Fayette County serving a nine- to 19-year term imposed in November 2021 by Judge Steven R. Serfass on firearms and drug charges. Correll was convicted of the charges following a two-day trial held in August 2021.

Matika ruled his sentence will run concurrent with the one imposed by Serfass.

Correll was arrested on Nov. 1, 2021, by Kidder Township police, at the Holiday Pocono development along Tanglewood Drive in Albrightsville. Police responded for a report of a suspicious person and found Correll passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed four bundles of heroin and other drugs, including methamphetamine.

Correll told the court, “I wasted so many years of my life. I just want to get my life back.”

He said he is attending drug-related courses at the state prison but said he is not eligible for the state prison drug treatment program because of the length of his sentence.

Matika also ordered him to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, render 100 hours of community service when he is eventually paroled, pay court costs of over $1,000 and supply a DNA sample.
