Police report on Monroe crashes

State police at Stroudsburg reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on July 24 in Monroe County:

• A one-vehicle occurred at 4:21 p.m. along Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Susan I. Sandt, 71, of Wind Gap, was driving a 2006 Mercury Milan northbound when the vehicle went off the road on the right side while Sandt was negotiating a left curve. The vehicle struck an embankment, causing it to over turn onto its roof.

Sandt sustained suspected minor injuries and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Pocono, East Stroudsburg, by West End ambulance. The vehicle was towed.

She was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

• Another one-vehicle crash occurred at 5:25 p.m. along Greenview Drive in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Stephen R. Rinehart, 55, of Kunkletown, was driving a 1990 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound and negotiating a left-hand curve when the bike left the road and went into a field. The bike then fell on its side.

Rinehart sustained a suspected minor injury and was taken to LVH Pocono by West End ambulance. The bike had to be towed.

Rinehart was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 1:55 a.m. along Broad Street in Smithfield Township. Troopers said they were dispatched to the crash and arriving on scene officers observed a 2021 Kia K5 was rolled over on its side with the driver trapped inside. The driver was freed by emergency responders and identified as Christopher R. Nelson, 23, of Effort. He was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono, East Stroudsburg, for an evaluation.

The police report indicates Nelson is facing a driving under the influence charge.

• Two people were cited by state police at the Stroudsburg barracks after a crash at 7:23 p.m. July 24 at the intersection of Sugar Hollow Road and Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township.

Juan C. Umana, 23, of Long Pong, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and Brandon A. Krajnak, 36, of Tannersville, was charged with driving while his license is suspended or revoked.

Police said the incident happened when Umana, driving a 2013 Honda Accord, was making a right-hand turn and struck Krajnak’s 2011 Ford F-450. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Neither driver was injured.
