Tamaqua holding registration for drug testing on Aug. 9

The Tamaqua Area School District will have registration for drug testing, per school district policy, Tuesday, Aug. 9 from 8-11 a.m.

Registration will take place in the Athletic Center.

As per the policy, any student in grades 7-through-12 who intends to participate in any athletic activity, non-athletic club or organization, and any student who applies to park on school property will be subject to an initial random drug test.

Student athletes may also pay the Pay to Participate fee at this time and give it to their respective coach.

The fee structure is as follows:

• $30 for first sport; $20 for the second sport; and $10 for the third sport.

For example, a three-sport athlete will pay a total of $60. If students qualify for free/reduced lunch, the fee is waived.

Students should put the payment in an envelope with the name, sport and grade of the student whether they bring it to the drug testing date, to the high school office or if they give it to a coach.

Checks can be made out to Tamaqua Area School District, or cash is accepted.
