Palmerton news for Aug. 3, 2022

Faith Alive Church

Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown), holds two services each Sunday with Pastor Rob Timlin. At 8:30 a.m. is the contemporary service followed by Sunday school for all ages at 9:45 a.m. and then traditional service at 11 a.m. You can worship in person or in the parking lot by tuning the radio station to 104.3 FM or Facebook Live.

Every Wednesday at 7 p.m. is prayer and praise.

Events for August:

Aug. 16 at 10 a.m. The Quilting Group meets, bring an antique quilt or square to share.

Aug. 7, 14, 21, 28, is a new Sunday school series for contemporary adult class called “Your Move” with leader Sam Heiney. All adults are welcome to this class.

Sign up is all month until Aug. 28 for tickets to attend the 25th anniversary celebration of our church. This special celebration is free, but you need to order a ticket to attend on Sept. 17 from 4-7 p.m.

Missions for August:

ABC Food Pantry, started by Faith Alive in April 2019. The desire is to help our church families and others in our community. Donated foods or paper products can be dropped off in the lobby by the office, or monetary gifts can be put in the mission envelopes and placed in the weekly offering.

Micah’s Backpack Program is starting to collect food items for the 2022-23 school year. This program helps the needy students of the Palmerton Area School District. A list of food items needed are found on the church website.

Band concert

The band concert in the Palmerton Borough Park on Aug. 7 will be by the Hazleton Band beginning at 6:30 p.m., weather permitting. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket.

The following Sunday, Aug. 14, will be the Pennsylvania Villagers. Please notice the August time change.

Sunday school picnic

The annual Sunday school picnic at the Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church picnic grove is this Saturday. Rain date is Sunday. The picnic starts at noon, with service at 2 p.m. Guest speaker is the Rev. Dr. Dean Frey (puppet ministry).

Afternoon activities include Kiddie Cake Walk and Fish Pond at 3 p.m. Evening activities include cake walk for all ages at 6:30 p.m., followed by the raffle drawing. Live music by Last One Standing starting at 4 p.m. Great food, fellowship and fun for all!

Located at 500 Church Drive in Trachsville off Route 209 behind the Towamensing Fire Co.

Jerusalem UCC picnic

Jerusalem United Church of Christ 545 Church Drive, Trachsville will hold its annual community church picnic on Aug. 13 from noon to 9 p.m. in the church grove. Rain date is Aug. 14.

Music is by the Main Street Cruisers and they will perform at 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Great food is available for purchase, and at noon the church ladies and gentlemen will be ready to serve and greet you.

The free Kiddie cake walk and games will start at 1 p.m.

A corn hole tournament will be at 3 p.m.

While there, check out the tricky tray and raffle ticket drawings. The drawings will be at 9 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m. will be Trachsville’s legendary cake walk.

Bring a lawn chair and spend the day. You will enjoy great food, great fun and great entertainment.

Jerusalem UCC

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, holds Sunday worship service in the picnic grove at 9 a.m. You can also remain in your vehicle in the parking lot and listen to the service on radio station 95.5 or watch live on Facebook. The service is also posted on the website after the service has concluded. Supply Pastor Don Quayle leads the worship. This week will be Holy Communion.

Monthly Grief & Loss Support Group

The Monthly Grief and Loss Support Group at JUCC, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, meets the second Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. and the fourth Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The group is presently being held on a web platform. Directed by professional counselor Sue Featro, M.E.D., E.D.D., M.S. Counseling, this group is for people experiencing grief due to trauma, loss or death. It is an effort to assist people in the surrounding community to heal and find peace. Quilt Guild

The Sew What Quilt Guild will meet at the Palmerton Area Library on Friday, at 10:30 a.m. New members and visitors are always welcome.

Children, don’t forget your summer reading log! Reading logs are due at the library by Aug. 12 for prizes and a certificate of completion. Stop by the library any time in August for ocean-themed drop-in activities.

Just a reminder, Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for August.

Breakfast

Breakfast will be served Sunday from 8-11:30 a.m. at Parryville Fire Co. No. 2, 359 Main St., Parryville. Platter choices include pancakes, French toast, eggs any style, SOS, Fire House Mess, western omelet, ham and cheese omelet. Choices of meats are ham, sausage, scrapple or bacon. Includes home fries, juice and coffee. They have large and small platters.
