Benefit for Mahoning officer recovering from COVID-19 set

A fundraiser for a Mahoning Township police officer who continues to recover from COVID-19 has been set.

The benefit for Amie Barclay will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Mahoning Valley Ambulance building at 902 Mill Road in Lehighton.

It will include a 50/50 raffle, basket raffle, and bake sale. The kitchen will serve food. DJ services will be provided by “Blizzard Entertainment.”

After COVID, Barclay developed a massive brain bleed and was hospitalized for over a month and went through two brain surgeries.

Barclay said there will be close to 200 baskets, along with 30 gift cards ranging from gas to restaurants and businesses in the area,

“I’m overwhelmed by all the donations,” Barclay said. “They keep coming in.”

Barclay has been with the Mahoning Township Police Department for the past 25 years.

“I’m getting better every day, my stamina is getting better,” she said.

“Every day I’m getting stronger; unfortunately with not getting my benefits, I’m not going to physical therapy. I’m doing it all on my own.”

Barclay said she’s been doing exercises at home with weights and wobble boards, cuts her grass, and recently started driving short distances.

“My neighbors have been really great,” she said. “All around, everyone is really supporting me.”

Barclay said she’s been “working so hard,” and added “my end goal is to go back to work.”

“Come out; it’s going to be a good time,” she said of this coming Sunday’s benefit. “Come visit me.”

They will also be selling T-shirts the day of the benefit. The costs are $15 for extra large, and $20 for 2XL and up.
