Turnpike closed in both directions in Carbon, expect major delays

Motorists traveling the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension should expect major delays as all northbound lanes are closed at the Mahoning Valley (74) exit.

According to the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the closure is between Mahoning Valley and Pocono (95) due to a crash. All northbound traffic must exit at the Mahoning exit and follow a detour onto Route 209 to Route 115 North and then I-80 West to exit 277. This will bring motorists back to the Pocono Interchange.

Likewise, all southbound lanes are shut down between the Lake Harmony (87) and Mahoning Valley exits to allow for a medical helicopter to land.

The closures occurred just before 6 p.m. due to crashes.
