July 30, 2010 - Marian hires John Patton to be its head basketball coach, replacing Mick Stefanek who stepped down after guiding the Colts for 11 years and 165 wins. Patton, a Marian graduate and a 12-year assistant coach, was a member of the 1980-81 squad that won the Anthracite League and District 11 championships. Patton recently completed his 12th season as Marian’s head coach in 2022, finishing with a 175-105 record and district titles in 2011 and 2017. Scott Murphy was named the Colts’ new mentor in May.
