Lehighton Paint the Park project begins
A community park in Lehighton is about to become more interactive.
Members of the Lehighton Parks & Recreation Board gathered at the Community Grove Wednesday morning to work on the Paint the Park project.
Autumn Abelovsky, a member of the Lehighton Parks & Recreation Board, said the project will upgrade the park at Eighth and Iron streets.
“The Paint the Park Project will enhance the walkways of the ever popular “Grove” with interactive games which will promote coordination, flexibility, agility, strength and endurance,” Abelovsky said. “Parents and children can come to the Grove and play some of the new games which are both physical and learning activities.”
Abelovsky said there will be an obstacle-like course with activities such as tightrope, hopping stones, and a maze. Other elements, such as counting, the alphabet and days of the week will also be incorporated into the painted games. The traditional calisthenic stations will have exercises such as lunges, jumping jacks and squats.
“It’s one of the most famous landmarks in the borough, and it’s a fun place to be,” she said. “It becomes a learning experience, and is also fun for the kids.”
Richard Zimmerman, a member of the recreation board, said the project will enhance the recreational and educational experience for families.
Abelovsky said volunteers from My Works Living Unlimited, worked with the parks & recreation board to complete the project. The parks & recreation board funded the project.
She said that stencils were borrowed from the City of Bethlehem, which completed a similar project at the Playrow Plaza in 2019.
Next week, more playground equipment will be added to the Community Grove. A new integrated surveillance will follow.
