Carbon County Court

A Lansford man was placed on probation on Tuesday after pleading guilty to one count each of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

He was one of six defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Domestic incident

John T. Shubeck Jr., 21, was arrested on May 4 when Lansford police responded to a domestic assault incident. Police were told by the female victim that Shubeck had assaulted her. He was noted the two have a female child together.

During the altercation the child was in a car seat held by the mother. She dropped the seat when Shubeck assaulted her. The child was not injured but the mothe suffered injuries.

In a plea deal with the district attorney’s office, a felony 1 count of strangulation was dropped.

The victim was present in the courtroom and told Nanovic she did not want a no contact provision included in any sentence imposed and said she didn’t want Shubeck to go to jail. She said the two were talking but were not together as a couple.

Nanovic placed Shubeck on probation for two years and ordered he get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, supply a DNA sample and if he has any weapons he must surrender them to the sheriff’s department within 24 hours. The sentence was imposed on both counts running concurrently.

Other pleas

Anthony Abreu, 28, of East Greenville, Montgomery County, pleaded to one count of harassment, as a summary offense. In exchange for the plea three counts of simple assault and one of count of prohibitive offensive weapon were dropped.

He was arrested on May 10, 2021, by Lansford police following a domestic incident.

Nanovic imposed a fine of $300 and costs.

Maribel Lynn Ciancio, 21, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of harassment, as a summary offense. In a plea agreement a charge of simple assault was dropped.

Ciancio was arrested on Nov. 21, 2021, by Mahoning Township police after officers responded to the area of the movie theater in the Carbon Plaza Mall for a disturbance. Ciancio was involved in an altercation with another person.

Nanovic imposed a fine of $50 and costs.

Nicki Brown, 33, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of harassment, as a summary offense. In exchange for the plea one count each of simple assault and defiant trespass were dropped.

She was arrested on March 17 by state police at Lehighton following an incident in Nesquehoning.

She was fined $300 and costs.

Daniel Rolon, 31, of Coaldale, pleaded in two pending cases to one count each of unsworn falsification to authorities and driving while license is suspended or revoked.

He was arrested on the first count on Jan. 29, 2020, by Lansford police following a vehicle stop. He had a fraudulent inspection sticker on the vehicle he was driving. The second count occurred on Jan. 26, 202, filed by Lansford police following a vehicle stop.

On the suspension count he was fined $1,000. Sentencing was deferred in the second case.

Devon Jerome Riddick-Dillard, 27, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession/sale, use display of documents. He was arrested on July 28, 2021, by Lansford police following a traffic stop. He had a forged inspection sticker on the vehicle he was driving.

Nanovic placed him on probation for 18 months and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and supply a DNA sample.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
