Dinner tonight

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is once again offering a free community dinner today from 5 to 6 p.m.

It includes a pulled pork sandwich, coleslaw, tri-tater, pickled egg, pickle, watermelon, dessert, snack and water.

Eldred meeting

The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m. today at municipal building in Kunkletown.

Meetings are held in person and virtually.

Hoagie sale start

Zion Lutheran’s church hoagie sale begins today and continues through July 31.

Orders and payment can be dropped in the manila envelope in the narthex, dropped off at the office or mailed, with payment, to Zion Lutheran Church, 1919 Route 209, Brodheadsville, PA 18322.

Orders can be picked up from 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 13, or after the 10:30 a.m. worship on Sunday until 12:30 p.m.

PV Board meets

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Pleasant Valley Administration Building on Route 115 in Brodheadsville.

WELL meeting

The West End Little League is holding its open meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville.

Senior meals

The Senior Center menu for the Chestnuthill Center, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, has mac & cheese on the menu for this Friday and pork with apple gravy next Wednesday.

Those wanting to enjoy the meals must make a meal reservation with site manager Donna Riedel at 570-242-6770 by 11 a.m. one day in advance.

A small donation per meal is suggested.

Saturday return

The Group Missions Team of youth and advisers of Effort UMC are on a Youth Mission Workcamp in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

They are expected to return Saturday.

Comedy Night

American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is hosting an open-to-community Comedy Night on Saturday, beginning with a 6 p.m. opening and concluding at 11 p.m.

It features 3 WiseCrackers comedians and offers food, cash bar, tricky trays and drawings.

Advance tickets are on sale at the Post.

It is a rain or shine event.

Outdoor services

McMichaels Methodist, on White Church Road and Route 715, is currently having its Sunday services outdoors, weather permitting. Attendees may stay in their car or have a seat provided in the beautiful outdoors.

Worship services begin at 9:30 a.m. After the service, there is fellowship and refreshment and beverage.

Church picnic

Effort UMC will hold its Family Church Picnic after the 11 a.m. service on July 31, returning to that tradition after a two-year pause.

Church family members are asked to register their intent and indicate a side dish planned for bringing for sharing.

Registration is requested by next Monday so others involved, including the Women’s Group, which is providing hamburgers and hot dogs can better plan.

Registration ends

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has announced its registrations for the Vacation Bible School of Mega Sports Camp, being held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. - with lunch included - is closing on Monday.

Register with the form sent out via the internet or stop by the church office.

Confirmation service hours available for those entering eighth grade only.

Polk meeting

The Polk Township Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the Municipal Building in Kresgeville.

Effort Preschool

Preschool registrations are now being accepted at Effort UMC for Just 3’s and Pre-K.

Tuesday jam

Musicians can join other musicians at the “jam” being held at St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

WE Republicans

The West End Republican Club will meet on Tuesday at Cherry’s Family Restaurant in Kresgeville. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Those planning to eat before the meeting are asked to be there by 6 p.m.

SAL meeting

The Sons of the American Legion, Post 927, July monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, beginning at 7 p.m. Prospective members are welcome.

Helpers thanked

The Garden of Giving has sent out its thanks to various people and groups that are actively helping in the Garden/with the Garden, including: volunteers from Camp Orchard Hill; groups from area churches; former Garden volunteers, Bob and Dr. Kimberly Yarnell; the Pocono Garden Club; Monroe County Bar Association; Cornerstone Community Church, the Farda Foundation; the Kiwanis Club; Lehigh Valley Health Network and more.

Continued help is needed as the giving season continues.

Clean car

Get your car washed by a firetruck from 8 a.m. to noon July 31 by the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company at the Kresgeville station.

Car Cruise set

Mrs. Bush’s Personal Care Homes on Kunkletown Road invites participation to its 11th Annual Car Cruise and Community Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 17 with a rain date of Sept. 18.

This annual event gets bigger and better each year, shares Carrei Shafer, ADC, Community Life Director at Mrs. Bush’s.

This year’s event will include musical entertainment by Dave “The Music Man” Labar and a basket raffle to support local organizations.

McKenzie’s Cruisin’ Kart will be serving up delicious breakfast sandwiches and lunch options.

In addition, there will be many vendors and crafters on site as well as local community organizations.

Community members are invited join the event at Mrs. Bush’s and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 927 Gilbert at 10 a.m. for a flag-raising ceremony and the singing of the national anthem.

If anyone has a vehicle to enter in the cruise, there is no need to register, just stroll in. Donations are appreciated.

The first 100 cars will receive a goody bag filled with items from event sponsors as well as a dash plaque.

Photo contest

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center 2023 Photo Contest is now open.

People are invited to send in photos that showcase Monroe County’s finest natural resources.

Winners will receive maple syrup from the Meesing Sugarbush and a 2023 MCCD calendar. Submissions are due Sept. 23.

One grand prize winner will also be featured on the cover of the 2023 calendar.

Fall event

The Western Pocono Memorial Park Committee is hosting a Coach, Kate Spade & Vera Bradley Bingo on Oct. 23 at the West End Fire Company on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

Doors open at noon and bingo starts at 1 p.m.

Each ticket purchased by Oct. 1 will get one entry in a special early bird drawing for a designer purse.

Refreshments such as turkey barbecue, hot dogs, pierogies, homemade soup, baked goods and drinks will be available.

All proceeds to benefit the Western Pocono Memorial Park in Kunkletown.

The park is located on Molasses Valley Road and has two softball fields, all-purpose field, basketball court, walking trail, playground and picnic pavilion.
