Police chief receives $3,000 pay increase

Palmerton’s police chief has received a salary increase following his review.

On a 6-0 vote, borough council on Thursday approved a $3,000 increase for borough police Chief Tim Kromer.

Additionally, council approved an increase in Kromer’s allowance for compensatory time from 40 hours to 50 hours until the end of the year.

In October, council hired Kromer as police chief, effective Jan. 1.

Council at its reorganization meeting in January set Kromer’s salary at $83,000.

Kromer replaced former police Chief Randy Smith, who retired.

Smith had been police chief since October 2008. He started as a full-time officer in the borough in March 1984.

Kromer was hired as a part-time officer in May 2002, and has been a full-time officer since December 2002.
