July 16, 1969 - Rick Jones collects two hits and scores a pair of runs to help Tamaqua open the District Little League tournament with a 6-5 victory over West Hazleton. Tamaqua opens the scoring in the first inning when Dennis Yelito drives in Jones with a single. Pete Polyak also singles and scores on an error in the frame, while Yelito races in on a passed ball. The winners add a pair of runs in the second on singles by Brian Turton and Jones, two walks, a balk and a passed ball. Jones knocks in the final run with a sacrifice fly. Turton earns the win, tossing all six innings and striking out three.
