Local roundup: Results from July 15

Tamaqua rolled to a win in the Panther Valley Little League tournament on Friday.

In other action, the Towamensing/Anthracite 8-10 softball squad was eliminated from the Section 6 tournament.

Tamaqua

A huge first inning carried Tamaqua to a 13-1 four-inning win over Towamensing in the Panther Valley 8-10 year-old Little League Tournament.

Tavin Makovec was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored for Tamaqua, which pushed across 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Jaxon Fanek added two hits with an RBI and two runs scored, while Cain Conner (two runs scored) and Ryan Geronimo (run scored) each had a double and two RBIs.

Aiden Barrett (run scored), Porter Wilson and Adilynn O’Gurek each had a hit and an RBI.

On the mound, Brady Bartczak struck out six while surrendering just two hits and one run in four innings of work.

Borger and J. Collins had hits for Towamensing, while Mertz collected an RBI.

Tow./Anthracite

Northwest advanced to the state tournament with an 11-1 victory over Towamensing/Anthracite in the 8-10 year-old Section 6 Tournament, which was held in Warrington.

This marked the second year in a row the team’s met in the sectional championship.

Madelyn Binder was 1-for-2 with a double, while Bella Marques scored a run on a stolen base for Towamensing/Anthracite.

Violet Scott also finished 1-for-2.
