Towamensing/Anthracite’s 8-10 softball team defeated Pocono Mountain West in sectionals on Thursday.

Towamensing/Anthracite stayed alive in the 8-10 Sectional Tournament by rolling past Pocono Mountain West, 16-5.

The victory avenged a 6-4 loss to PM West in the opening round.

Bella Marques earned the pitching win, striking out eight in the process. She also scored four runs on offense.

Towamensing/Anthracite also received four runs and three RBIs from Madelyn Binder, while Sofia Benscoter collected a hit and knocked in five runs.

BLUE MTN. LEAGUE

Berlinsville-Yankees

Justin Kratz and Tommy Dunleavy combined on a four-hitter to lead the Northern Yankees to a 4-1 Blue Mountain League victory over the Berlinsville Braves.

Kratz tossed five innings, allowing three hits and an unearned run while striking out two. Dunleavy pitched the final two frames and gave up one hit.

Lehighton graduate Jacen Nalesnik had a double and scored a run for the Yankees, who improved to 19-4. Drew Grace collected two hits, one a double, and scored two runs, while Drew Grace added a hit, a run and an RBI.

For the Braves, who dropped to 10-15, Owen Fischl had a single, a double, and an RBI. Shane Fillman added a double and a stolen base.
