Schuylkill Co. commissioner injured

Schuylkill County Commissioners’ Chairman Barron L. “Boots” Hetherington was seriously injured Tuesday when he fell about 15 feet from a hay truck at his Ringtown farm.

“Hopefully he’ll be all right,” said Commissioner Gary J. Hess on Wednesday.

Hess said Hetherington, 68, was flown by helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

A hospital staff member on Wednesday morning said Hetherington was in the trauma intensive care unit. No information about his condition was able to be released.

Hetherington, who owns B&R Farms with his wife, Robin, was appointed as a commissioner in April 2020 to fill the term vacated when Commissioner Frank J. Staudenmeier passed away.

That term ends next year.

B&R Farms has been part of the family homestead for over 150 years. It has received numerous awards for advancements and achievements in agriculture including Conservation Farm of the Year.
