Weissport Borough Council President Arland Moyer said he finally received the permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to get the Bridge Street project moving.
“I received an email from Stephen Ewald, Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor for PennDOT,” Moyer advised council.
“We will have a meeting on Thursday, July 14, on Bridge Street between PennDOT and the borough council.”
Council members were concerned because the project has been in the works for four years, and is only just getting started.
In less that two weeks, the borough stands to lose funding for the project if it is delayed any further.
“The last I heard from Jim Thorpe, they are not going to renew the funding,” Moyer advised.
“Why isn’t this project started?” asked Councilman Tom Ketchledge.
“Partly due to PennDOT, partly the engineers,” Moyer responded.
PennDOT issued the permit and now they need to do the inspection.
It was one year ago that Weissport Borough awarded the Bridge Street Project to Barker & Barker Paving, Inc. of Bethlehem for the amount of $149,190.
