Personnel moves were presented at the Schuylkill County commissioners’ meeting Wednesday.
The county hired former state trooper Kirk A. Kirkland, Pottsville, to work as a poster for the Tax Claim Bureau. There are no benefits to the $14 an hour job, which is done on a by-the-day basis. Kirkland will start on July 11.
Kirkland, of Pottsville, spoke at a public commissioners meeting on June 22.
Then, he asked commissioners why only three of the 700 courthouse employees are minorities.
“We need to do better,” he said. “Why aren’t minorities applying for jobs in Schuylkill County government?”
Kirkland said he applied for an aide position in the probation department, but didn’t get the job.
In other personnel matters Wednesday, Mikaela Seltzer, New Ringgold, was hired as a caseworker for the Children and Youth Services Agency $18.33 an hour. She starts July 18.
Resignations included Logan Goines, Pottsville, from his clerk typist job with the Human Services Department; Anne Gonda of Pottsville from her caseworker job with the Children and Youth Services Agency; William Allar, Wayne Township, from his deputy sheriff job; and David Bolich, Port Carbon, from his job as a poster for the Tax Claim Bureau.
The position of Drug and Alcohol Agency case management specialist was created, and Ashley Schappe, Schuylkill Haven, was hired for that position at $21.15 an hour beginning July 6.
