Annual Rockin’ Rescue raises funds for animals

The 12th annual Rockin’ Rescue filled the Weissport Borough Park with food, games, craft vendors, and entertainment, but most of all, animal rescue organizations and information. Rockin’ Rescue was sponsored by the Blue Mountain Animal Rescue Society & Carbon County Animal Cruelty Fund.

Donna Becker-Crum, founder of the Rockin’ Rescue, explained this year’s theme.

“Each year we always pick a theme. This year it’s ‘CAT’ Astrophy & Canine Chaos. The reason is because during COVID, we were on lockdown, and there were no spay and neuter clinics open. There were no vets open to do spaying and neutering. Now we have an overpopulation problem, and it’s getting the best of all the rescues.”

Evidence of this was the rabies clinic held Saturday morning that had a long line, with about a half-hour wait.

“All the rescues, not just us, they all need support,” Crum added. “They all need help, they all need donations and support. This is not just for us; we have other rescues here. Everybody has to realize that it doesn’t matter who you help, as long as you help somebody. Every little bit adds up.”

Blue Mountain Animal Rescue also brought along three dogs that were ready for adoption; two were adopted. The third, a Yorkie named “Gizmo” is still looking for “furever” home.

“One of the things we do is a Junior Ambassador program,” Crum said. “Every year we offer a Junior Ambassador Award. Tryniti LaBar is one of the six that we have, and has won two or three times. The ambassadors are trained to help with walking and caring for the dogs. With her is Gizmo, and Gizmo is up for adoption. Gizmo is a Yorkie mix, about a year old. And we have five or six others looking for adoption. Some are 3 months old, some 2 years.”

There was plenty of delicious food available during the weekend. Entertainment was by a DJ on Friday; The Bees Knees, DJ Tony & His Sidekick, and Bugsy’s Evolution performed on Saturday; and the Pennsylvania Villagers entertained on Sunday.
