Council revisits discussion on property dump

Bowmanstown may delve a little deeper into the East Penn property dump.

Councilman Rob Moyer briefly revisited the matter at Tuesday’s borough council meeting.

The property is located off Route 895, and consists of 40 acres total, 3 of which is the actual dumping grounds.

Moyer noted there are two parcels; one of which is the dump, and added the borough should do inventory on the other acres.

Last month, council held discussion on the East Penn property dump.

Moyer said at that time he believes now isn’t the time to sell.

He suggested the borough hold onto it, as right now it’s real property.

No action was taken on the matter.

After that meeting, Tara Takerer, treasurer/assistant secretary, said that before the 1970s, it used to be the residential dump, as the borough used to collect the garbage.

Takerer said the dump has been closed, and the 3 acres is the dump ground, while the remainder of the property is all trees, forest, and believes a stream runs through.

She said the potential sale of the property had previously been discussed by council, but nothing ever stemmed from it.
