A Luzerne County woman who struck a state trooper in the chest at a traffic stop and was charged with aggravated assault and related counts, was placed in a special probation program on Tuesday in Carbon County court.
Ana Ubely Mena, 43, of Wilkes-Barre, was placed in the county’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program by Judge Joseph J. Matika for two years as recommended by the district attorney’s office.
She was arrested on May 1 after state police at Fern Ridge barracks conducted a traffic stop on a gray 2008 Subaru Impreza traveling 89 mph in a posted 65 mph speed limit zone on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township at 2:16 p.m. The driver, Brayan Fer Fuentes Mena, 43, had a warrant for failure to appear out of Luzerne County.
Trooper Jeremy Kenosky began to take him into custody when his mother, Ana Mena, got out of the vehicle and approached Kenosky. Ana Mena continuously failed to comply with Kenosky’s orders to return to the vehicle. As Kenosky began to approach her to take her into custody, she struck him in the chest. A brief struggle ensued, during which time Ana Mena actively resisted arrest.
Ana Mena was charged with aggravated assault to cause bodily harm, resisting arrest, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. All the counts are included in the ARD program.
She was also ordered to render 100 hours of community service, pay an assessment fee of $450 for the cost of the program, attend and successfully complete an anger management course, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program and pay court costs of over $1,000.
If she successfully completes all conditions of the program the charges will be dropped and her record cleared. However, if she fails to complete the program, or is revoked from it, then she would face trial on all charges filed. She does not admit guilt in entering the program.
