Local roundup: Results from July 5

The Berlinsville Braves posted a win in Blue Mountain League action on Tuesday. Elsewhere, Northern Valley and Carbon each dropped Lehigh Valley Legion playoff openers.

BLUE MTN. LEAGUE

Berlinsville-Hellertown

The Berlinsville Braves picked up a 9-6 win over the Hellertown Royals in a Blue Mountain League contest.

Gavin LaCoe launched a grand slam in the third inning to extend the Braves’ (8-13) lead to 7-2 at that point. LaCoe finished with five RBIs. Austin Mueller (double, run scored) and Zach Day (RBI, run scored) each finished with two hits, while Conor Howland added a double, RBI and two runs scored.

Parker Frey was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored for the Royals (11-7-1).

Lower Macungie opened the Lehigh Valley Legion playoffs with an 11-1 win over the Carbon Monarchs.

Dominick Chiego was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for Lower Macungie, the fourth seed. Jackson Merk added two hits, an RBI and a run scored, while Alex Pion recorded a hit and drove in two runs. Pion pitched four innings, striking out four. Tyler Geist closed the door, striking out the side in the fifth.

Richard Strack doubled with an RBI for the fifth-seeded Monarchs, while Ian Rarick also had a hit. Carbon will face Northern Valley in a loser’s bracket game today at 5:45 p.m.

Northern Vy.-No. Parkland

A big third inning and a combined no-hitter helped North Parkland cruise to a 9-0 win over Northern Valley in a Lehigh Valley Legion playoff contest.

Cole Skrapits was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored for No. 2 North Parkland, which pushed across eight runs in the third inning. Sean Rivera (RBI, two runs scored), Jake Barto (run scored) and Noah Gunkle (RBI, run scored) all added two hits in the win, while Matthew Razzis collected a double with two RBIs and scored a run. Starter Joseph Algard tossed four hitless innings, striking out four with two walks before Gunkle finished the no-hitter with a perfect fifth inning, recording one strikeout.

Cole Hausman and Nicholas Scott each recorded a walk for the sixth-seed Northern Valley, which will face the Carbon Monarchs today at 5:45 p.m. in a loser’s bracket game.
