Lehighton Downtown Partnership to present fireworks on Independence Day

A menagerie of hues will brighten the evening sky in Lehighton on Independence Day.

The Lehighton Downtown Partnership, under the Carbon Chamber and Economic Development, will present the Lehighton Fireworks at 10 p.m. Monday.

They will be launched down by the river, behind the Lehighton Outdoor Center, and will last between 20-25 minutes, according to Bambi Elsasser, Lehighton Main Street Manager with Carbon Chamber and Economic Development.

Elsasser gave special thanks to the Lehighton Outdoor Center for allowing the fireworks to be launched on their property.

She said the fireworks will be shot off by Shooting Star Fireworks from Slatington, and will be high enough to be viewed from anywhere in the borough.

“We’re trying to stay as local as possible,” Elsasser said. “We always put on a great display, and this display will be greater than last year’s.”

Elsasser said the event is sponsored by the Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank, Lehigh Valley Hospital – Carbon, St. Luke’s Health Network – Carbon, Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau, and Lehigh Fire Company No. 1.

“This is just something we do for our community,” she said. “And we hope for their support in the future to help with our revitalization projects in the downtown area.”

Elsasser noted that North and South Street will be blocked off between Second and Third, while North Main Lane will be closed.

She said parking will be allowed along Lehigh Drive, but not in the grass areas, while all property of the Lehighton Outdoor Center will be closed to the public.

Elsasser encouraged visitors to bring their lawn chairs or blankets, where they may sit in the grassy area between Lehigh Drive and Stanley Hoffman Boulevard.

She added that another great place to enjoy the fireworks are on North Street, South Street and North Main Lane.

“Please be patient and respect our police officers and fire police as they direct traffic,” she said.
