Rock slide blamed for crash on I-81 in Schuylkill County

A rock slide was blamed for a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 6:12 a.m. on June 23 along Interstate 81 in Kline Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said due to a large amount of rain in the area a rock slide occurred and a large boulder landed in the right travel lane.

Wilfrido Reynoso Suero, 43, of Mahanoy City, was driving a 2002 Subaru Outback northbound and was unable to avoid the boulder and struck it with the right front end.

After impact the boulder the vehicle rolled onto its roof and traveled in a northwest direction for about 120 feet before coming to rest on its roof in the left travel lane.

Reynoso Suero and his passenger, Widinson Rosario-Reynoso, 18, also of Mahanoy City, were both taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton Campus.

The vehicle was towed. The roadway was reduced to one lane until the vehicle was towed and the area cleared.

Assisting troopers at the scene were volunteers from the McAdoo Fire Company, Ryan Township ambulance and Luzerne County Medic 11.
