The Carbon Monarchs swept a Lehigh Valley Legion doubleheader, while Franklin Township’s 8-10 all-star team posted two wins in the District 18 Little League tournament over the weekend.

Carbon-Southern Lehigh

The Carbon Monarchs swept Southern Lehigh in a Lehigh Valley Legion doubleheader on Sunday.

Carbon won the opener by an 18-8 score, before taking the second game by an 11-4 count.

In the first game, Randy Bongiorni knocked in four runs with a pair of hits, one a double. Jack Edwards collected three hits and scored twice, while Ian Rarick contributed two hits, three runs and an RBI.

The Monarchs, who used a 10-run fifth inning to erase a deficit, also received two hits, a run and an RBI from Michael Yeakel, and a hit, three runs and two RBIs from Garrett Lienhard.

In the second game, Lienhard had two hits, three RBIs and a pair of runs.

Carbon opened the contest with an eight-run first inning to set the tone.

Aiden Rarick collected two hits and two RBIs, while Bongiorno finished with a hit, run and two RBIs.

The wins lifted Carbon’s record to 7-6.

Tamaqua-Franklin Township

Franklin Township scored early and often Sunday to gain a 12-3 victory over Tamaqua in a winner’s bracket contest.

The winners posted four runs in the first inning before adding five in the second to take a commanding lead.

Myles Mann collected two hits, scored two runs and had four RBIs for Franklin, while Carter Spotts finished with two hits, four runs and an RBI. One of Spotts’ hits was a triple.

Franklin also received two hits and three runs from Roman White, with Colby Solt adding a pair of hits and an RBI.

Winning pitcher Ethan Laible pitched five innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking out eight. He also helped his own cause with two hits - one a double - and two runs.

Tamaqua’s Tavin Makovec, Cain Conner and Jaxon Fanek each finished with a hit and a run.

Anthracite

Tucker Gilbert had three hits and also gained the pitching win as Tri-County/Weatherly defeated Anthracite 9-1 on Sunday to stay alive in the tournament.

Gilbert had two doubles and a single while scoring a run. He only allowed one run and four hits while striking out nine.

Tyson Hess added a pair of hits, one a double, and two runs for the winners. Ryley Jacoby reached base four times on three walks and a double, and scored three times, with Vance Gerhard chipping in with two hits and a run.

For Anthracite, Cooper Lynn finished with a pair of hits.

Anthracite-Franklin Township

Franklin Township pounded out 17 hits on Saturday to open the tournament with a 15-0 victory over Anthracite.

Nine different FT batters had hits in the game, with Roman White leading the way with three. White also scored a pair of runs.

The winners also received two hits, two runs and two RBIs from both Ethan Laible and Carter Spotts. Colby Solt chipped in with two hits and two runs, while Myles Meek added a pair of hits and a run.

Owen Moyer and White combined on a three-inning no-hitter. Moyer pitched the first inning, while White tossed the final two.

Weatherly/Tri-County

Tavin Makovec and Jaxon Fanek both collected three hits Saturday to help lead Tamaqua to a 12-0 victory over Weatherly/Tri-County.

All three hits by Fanek, who scored twice and knocked in three runs, were doubles. Makovec also had two doubles and scored three times.

Chayse Barron added a hit, two runs and an RBI for the winners, who took control with a four-run second inning. Tamaqua also received a hit, run and RBI from Adilynn O’Gurek and Brady Bartczak.

Makovec earned the pitching win, allowing no hits and striking out four in 2 2/3 innings.

Carter Minnick had the only hit for Weatherly/Tri-County.

10-12 TOURNAMENT

Tamaqua-Hazle Township

Tamaqua pulled away from Hazle Township in the later innings Friday to earn a 14-2 victory in both team’s tournament opener.

Ace Schickram reached base four times with a walk, single, double and triple, and also scored four runs. Aidan Elston added two hits, one a double, and scored three times, while Matthew Giuliano finished with a double and four runs.

The winners, who scored four times in the fourth and five more times in the fifth, also received a hit and two runs from Gavin Edmonds.

Jaedon Vidzicki and Nico Conahan combined on a one-hitter. Vidzicki, who allowed the hit, pitched 3 2/3 innings and struck out nine. Great defensive plays by James Wronski and Jake Fritzinger in the bottom of the fifth inning sealed the victory.

Palmerton-Southern Lehigh

A six-run fourth inning lifted Southern Lehigh to an 8-2 Connie Mack League victory over Palmerton on Sunday.

Yeakel-Mendez hit a two-run homer during the fourth frame for the winners, who also received two hits and two runs from Edwards.

For the Blue Bombers, Derek King and Ashton Solt both had two hits and a run while Trey Sterling added a pair of hits.

The loss dropped Palmerton to 4-9-1.

Palmerton-Wilson

Wilson cruised to a 12-0 win over Palmerton in a Lehigh Valley Senior Connie Mack contest on Friday.

Andrew Sagrestano powered Wilson with two doubles, a triple and five RBIs. He also scored two runs. Gunner Scheetz added a double among his two hits with an RBI and two runs scored, while Noah Wallaesa also doubled with an RBI and two runs scored and AJ Rooks added a pair of hits and a run scored. On the mound, Nico Brown tossed six scoreless innings, striking out eight while allowing just three hits and three walks.

Matthew Domski, Trey Sterling and Owen Hubbard had hits for Palmerton.

Jack Rothenhausler hit a homer and a double to help the Hellertown Royals gain a 5-1 Blue Mountain League victory over Berlinsville.

The winners, now 9-4-1, also received a pair of hits from both Eric Ludwick and Ian Burley, while Marcus Nales knocked in a pair of runs.

For the Braves, Colin Hauck had two hits and an RBI. Owen Fischel added a hit, two walks and a run, with Logan Fritz chipping with a hit and a walk.

The loss dropped Berlinsville to 6-10.
