Carbon seeking applicants for openings

Carbon County has several openings in county departments, officials say.

On Thursday, the county commissioners spoke about the need for more employees in various departments, as well as the potential of creating two additional positions to help in the dog shelter.

“We continue to look for personnel in many offices,” Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said.

For example, the sheriff’s office is down about five positions, while children and youth is down multiple positions.

Other positions posted on the county website include corrections officers, both full-time and part-time; part-time parking/meter attendant; county caseworker III; clerical specialist in the district attorney’s office; deputy clerk in the clerk of courts; and part-time dispatcher trainees.

Nothstein also said the county is looking at creating two new positions at the shelter to help Tom Connors, director. They would include part-time kennel cleaner and a clerical position to answer phones and help with paperwork.

He said that Connors goes above and beyond the call of duty for the dogs, working seven days a week and coming in on vacation days.

“We definitely need to get him help because he’s going to burn himself out,” Nothstein said. “I don’t think people realize just how many hours he puts in.

“We are in dire need of additional help at the shelter.”

Volunteers are also needed to walk the dogs.
