Federal inmate charged with possessing a weapon

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Hubert Carter, 41, a federal prison inmate, was indicted by a federal grand jury for possessing contraband in prison.

The indictment alleges that on June 9, while an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution, Schuylkill, Minersville, Carter possessed a 5.5-inch metal implement with a cloth handle capable of being used as a weapon.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Federal Bureau of Prisons Special Investigative Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffery St. John is prosecuting the case.

The maximum penalty under federal law for this offense is five years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
