Nesquehoning welcomes 2 new council members

Nesquehoning council officially welcomed two new councilwomen to the board.

On Wednesday, council voted to appoint Fran Heaney to fill the vacancy created earlier this month with the resignation of Councilwoman Rosemary Porembo.

Heaney was one of eight residents interested in the vacancy.

Mayor Tom Kattner swore in Heaney, as well as Abbie Guardiani, who was appointed earlier this month to fill the vacancy created by the passing of longtime Councilman Frank Jacobs.

The board now consists of three new members, including Lois Corby-Kuba, who was appointed last month to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Councilman Michael Radocha.

Following the swearing-in, Kattner said he felt the two new councilwomen were good decisions for the town.

Nesquehoning is currently in the process of rebuilding, with two new police officers and a changing council.

Council President David Hawk said that now that there is again a full board, new committee assignments will be created for the various borough committees each council person sits on.
