Office closed

The Eldred Township Business Office will be closed today and Friday.

Office hours on Thursday will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Public Works will be open as usual.

PV board meets

On Thursday, the Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. and next Thursday, the board will be in special session to approve the budget, also at 7 p.m.

BP screening

Blood pressure screenings will be done at the Chestnuthill Senior Center, at Zion Lutheran Church, at 10 a.m. this Friday.

Foods needed

Because PVEN does not have enough manpower to provide meals every day, churches are collecting various items, including Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, which has a PVEN barrel outside the atrium to collect donations including tuna, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, microwave mac & cheese, canned pasta, dried fruits and juice boxes.

Family Fun Flick

St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Saylorsburg, is scheduled for an outdoor family fun flick on Friday with curtain-time being sundown, approximately 8:30 p.m.

The rain date is July 1.

The film is a John Wayne film, “The Cowboys.” The plot is rancher Wil Andersen is forced to hire inexperienced boys as cowhands in order to get his herd to market on time, but the rough drive is full of dangers and a gang of cattle rustlers is trailing them.

The film is rated PG due to one scene involving violence. It is 128 minutes long.

Viewers are invited to bring their blankets, lawn chairs, snacks and beverages to watch this 1972 film. The community is invited to join the congregation for a free evening of family-time togetherness.

The showing is behind the church at 924 Route 115, Saylorsburg. For further information call the church office at 570-992-7311.

Flea market

This weekend, rain or shine, is the time for Our Lady Queen of Peace’s church flea market. The hours are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Something for everyone is the theme from the organizers, including collectibles, furniture, jewelry, handbags, electronics, tools, shoes, toys, holiday, books, movies, music, crafts, frames, prints, lawn and garden, bargain tent - and much more. Plus, a basket raffle, yummy bake sales, and lunch menu, too.

In light of the flea market, the Eucharistic Adoration for Friday will be canceled but the church will still be open to those who wish to come in and pray.

Cleanup time

American Legion Post 927 has an open invitation to people to volunteer to lend a hand to help clean up the Post in Gilbert on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.

That invitation is: just show up, no tools required.

Early start

The Post has another open to community event scheduled. This one is on June 27. It is a Captain Ron’s Fishermen Charter to Atlantic Highland, New Jersey. Gathering time is 4:30 a.m.; carpool leaves at 5 a.m.

Pantry open

Effort UMC’s food pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Donations being sought by the pantry include: condiments, including mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, relish and pickles.

Scavenger hunt

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center offers a family scavenger hunt program at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Kettle Creek.

All families will receive a challenging list of natural items located on the Kettle Creek property. Photograph found items with cellphones for later confirmation.

All families who complete the hunt successfully will be awarded a prize. Preregistration is required. There is a cost.

Special speaker

St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Saylorsburg, will welcome Alice Marchesani of the Pregnancy Resource Center of the Poconos on Sunday. She will speak of the center’s various programs, for both women and men, and the outreach it provides to promote positive parenting.

All are welcome into the sanctuary of St. Peter’s UMC in Saylorsburg for worship and to hear Alice speak.

Summer social

The United Way of Monroe County has announced a free summer social. It will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the ShawneeCraft Brewing Company.

Free admission, music, games and more. Special edition summer ale, barbecue, pizza and refreshments are also available.

Concert Sunday

Ross Township’s park will be the site for summer concerts beginning this Sunday and featuring Dave LaBar performing music from the ’50s through the ’70s from 5:30 through 8:30 p.m.

Although a food truck may be present, attendees may bring their own lawn chairs and snacks.

Jam sessions

Local and not-so-local musicians can gather and share their talents at St. Peter’s UMC in Saylorsburg at 11 a.m., the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the church’s fellowship hall.

The next get-together of seasoned instrumentalists and developing artists alike is this coming Tuesday.

People may join the music makers or join the group to listen and enjoy.

Republicans meet

The West End Republican Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cherry’s Family Restaurant in Kresgeville. Those planning to eat there before the meeting are asked to come an hour earlier.

Tax relief deadline

June 30 is the deadline for tax relief for seniors based on income guidelines from the Pleasant Valley School District.

Christmas in July

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is hosting a Christmas in July event on July 10 in front of Faith Garden at the church, following the worship service at 10:30 a.m., beginning at 11 a.m.

There is fun planned for all, including crafts, making cards for pastor’s home visits, and outdoor games.

Participants are asked to bring lawn chairs or a blanket as well as a bag lunch. Refreshments will be supplied.

If able to, attendees are asked to bring school supplies for the PVEN.
