Local Roundup: Results from June 20

Three area legion teams picked up wins on Monday.

The Carbon Monarchs and Northern Valley Chargers earned Lehigh Valley Legion victories, while the Birches gained a Northampton County triumph.

LV LEGION

Carbon-Allentown

Randy Bongiorno pitched four scoreless innings in relief and the Carbon Monarchs rallied in the middle frames to pull out a 6-4 Lehigh Valley Legion victory over Allentown.

Bongiorno entered the contest in the fourth inning with his team tied 4-4, but allowed just three hits and no runs the rest of the way while striking out two.

The Monarchs took the lead in the fifth when Austin Green delivered a two-run single.

Carbon’s Rich Strack reached base four times (one hit and three walks), scored twice and knocked in a run, while Jack Edwards added a hit and an RBI. The Monarchs also received a hit and run scored from Lawrence Baldassano.

The win lifts Carbon’s record to 5-6, with Allentown falling to 3-9.

Northern Vy.-Emmaus

Two Northern Valley pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout as the Chargers registered a 10-0 Lehigh Valley Legion victory over Emmaus.

Morgan LaBuda went the first four innings, allowing the three hits while striking out four. Nicholas Bogert tossed the final frame, fanning one.

The hurlers received plenty of support, as a five-run fourth inning clinched the win.

Wesley George hit a two-run triple in the fourth and finished the contest with three hits and three RBIs. Evan Druckenmiller collected two hits and knocked in a pair of runs, while Sam Mauro and Zach Chamberlain both contributed a hit and two runs.

The win lifts Northern Valley to 5-4-1, with Emmaus dropping to 0-11.

NORCO LEGION

Birches-Nazareth

The Birches received solid pitching from both Nate Mostosky and Dominic Payan to gain a 7-1 Northampton County Legion victory over Nazareth.

Mostosky tossed the first five innings, allowing just two hits and an unearned run. While he walked six, he also struck out five. Payan, meanwhile, allowed no hits or runs in his two innings of work.

Offensively, John Smale reached base three times with a triple and two walks. He scored a run and knocked in one. Austin Ratti added a hit and two RBIs, and Payan finished with a hit and two runs.

Franklin-Pen Argyl

Franklin Township jumped out to a big lead and cruised to a 12-2 Lehigh Valley Connie Mack league victory over Pen Argyl.

Cameron Gable had two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the winners, who scored seven times in the first inning. Noah Barndt added a pair of hits - one a double - and knocked in two runs, while Carter Birnbaum reached base four times (two hits, walk, hit by pitch) and scored twice.

Franklin also received two hits, a run and an RBI from Jake Lewis, with Dawson Keiser chipping in with a double and three runs scored.

Lewis earned the pitching win, allowing just four hits and two unearned runs while striking out five.

SCHUY. TEENER

Lansford Krajcirik’s opened its season with a 1-3 record in its first four games.

Lansford posted a 3-2 victory over Blue Mountain Blue behind the pitching of Tyler Black and the hitting of Brady Jones. Black struck out 10 to earn the win, while Jones drilled a two-run homer.

Against Schuylkill Haven, Brody Breiner had a double and a stolen base but Krajcirik’s dropped a 5-2 decision. Lansford’s Conner Penberth struck out five batters.

A late comeback fell short against Pottsville, as Krajcirik’s fell by a 10-7 score. Breiner had a double and scored twice in the loss.

Against Blue Mountain White, Matt Engler hit a solo homer but Lansford dropped an 8-4 contest. Breiner finished with a double, a stolen base and a run, while Drew Kokinda and Black both chipped in with a hit, stolen base and run scored.
