Indian Trail Park hosts event

Indian Trail Park has always been the family park of Lehigh Township. Decades ago it was an amusement park, complete with a swimming pool and a carousel. Today it is a place where groups gather to celebrate special occasions, play horseshoes, use playground equipment and go fishing.

On Saturday, between 1 and 4 p.m., Lehigh Township Rails to Trails invites you and your family to explore the park in a new way. We will be showcasing the creation of a path through the woods. In order to do so, we had to remove a lot of trash, smooth out some of the terrain and spread gravel. Along the path you’ll now be able to identify some native trees, as well as invasive plants, look for birds and see our specially created planting areas.

Children can look for “caterpillars” and win a prize! They can also do leaf rubbings and paint rocks. An outdoor specialist will be present to help kids of all ages find small organisms that live in Indian Creek. There will be other activities for all ages as well.

If you are interested in the history of Indian Trail Park, and of our township, visit the historical center. It is adjacent to the park. You’ll be amazed at what you will find there.

To help finance our projects in the park and elsewhere, we will be having a raffle of gift cards and baskets to area stores. We will also have some perennials for sale. Look for us at pavilion 2, and at the woods.

Heavy rain will postpone the event to a date later in the summer.
