STATE POLICE AT LEHIGHTON - CRASHES
State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on Carbon County roadways.
• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 12:03 p.m. on Tuesday along Route 903 (North Street), in Jim Thorpe. Troopers said Thomas A. Kurak, 73, of Jim Thorpe, driving a 2012 GMC Sierra, attempted to make a left turn onto North Street when he cut the turn short and struck a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation truck, a 2005 Mack truck, operated by Brian D. Kull, 46, of Pottsville, which was stopped in the left hand turn lane of North Street.
No injuries were reported and both vehicles were driven from the scene.
Kurak was cited for the crash.
• A crash was reported at 1:38 p.m. on Monday along Packerton Dam Drive in Mahoning Township, in a construction zone. Troopers said Michael A. DiMichele, 50, of Blakeslee, was operating a 2019 Peterbilt truck and was informed by a flagger to merge into the westbound lane and drive east through the construction zone. While driving through the area his vehicle sideswiped a parked and unattended 2016 Ford, causing minor damage.
No one was injured and both vehicles were driven from the scene.
• A rear-end type crash was reported at 12:15 p.m. on Monday along Route 903, near Danner Road, in Penn Forest Township. Troopers said Gabriel J. Schwoyer, 33, of Slatington, was operating a 2007 International Harvester truck and was stopped in the southbound lane when the truck was struck by a 2022 Subaru Outback driven southbound by Sandy H. Missmer, 81, of Albrightsville. The Outback became partially struck under the truck.
Missmer suffered a suspected minor injury and was treated at the scene by Lehighton ambulance personnel. Schwoyer was not injured. The Outback was towed.
Missmer was cited for following too closely.
• A two-vehicle crash happened at 8:34 p.m. on June 11 at the intersection of Kunkletown and Weir Lake roads in Ross Township, Monroe County.
Troopers said Angela L. Fritzinger, 58, of Lehighton, was driving a 2017 Mitsubishi 4D eastbound and attempted to turn left onto Weir Lake Road and did not see a 1998 Honda Accord, driven by Timothy G. Guelich, 47, of Roseto, stopped at a stop sign and took the turn too sharply. The Mitsubishi struck the front of the Honda.
No one was injured. The Mitsubishi had to be towed and Fritzinger was cited for the crash.
