MCT recognizes four residents as community heroes

Mauch Chunk Trust Company honored four people at the 21st Annual Community Heroes Banquet on Wednesday, held at the Lehighton Orioles Community Center.

Including the four newest recipients, 111 Community Heroes been awarded this honor throughout the years.

The banquet’s main guests of honor were the 2022 Community Hero award recipients themselves: Georgiann Davis of Summit Hill, Tina Dowd of Lehighton, Judy Hoppes of Tamaqua, and Bill Solomon of Jim Thorpe.

A total of 120 guests joined the celebration, including current community heroes family and friends, former Community Heroes, the program’s selection committee, MCT employees, MCT’s board of directors and Pennsylvania state Sen. David Argall representing the 29th District for Berks and Schuylkill counties.

Following dinner, Patrick H. Reilly, president/CEO of Mauch Chunk Trust, was the presenter of awards to each community hero including an etched glass award with the recipient’s name, plus official citations from each recipient’s Pennsylvania state representative and senator.

Each community hero had the opportunity to speak about their heartwarming volunteering efforts and the organizations they support.

Each recipient received a $200 donation from Mauch Chunk Trust for an organization they selected:

• Georgiann Davis: split donation between “Friends of Camp Louise” and “Camp EverGreen”

• Tina Dowd: Carbon County Community Foundation

• Judy Hoppes: Hope & Coffee

• Bill Solomon: Family Promise of Carbon County

The next Community Heroes nomination period will open in March 2023 and is open to the public.

Mauch Chunk Trust Company was incorporated on Aug. 25, 1902 as the successor institution to the Second National Bank of Mauch Chunk, established in 1864.

MCT remains a locally owned and managed independent community bank with its main office in Jim Thorpe, and operates a total of seven community offices and one trust/investment office throughout Carbon and Schuylkill counties.
