CCTI hires Woods as new resource officer

The members of the Carbon Career and Technical Institute’s Joint Operating Committee met the new police officer hired for the school Thursday night.

During the meeting, the board voted to appoint Henry Woods as school police/resource officer for a maximum of 190 scheduled days over a 12-month period, on a one-year contract at $30,000 effective Aug. 1.

He is replacing Francis L. DeMatto, who resigned earlier this year.

Woods, former Tamaqua police chief, worked for the past two years in the Tamaqua School District, where he worked with all grade levels; elementary, middle, and high school.

Woods expressed how impressed he was with CCTI.

“I was amazed, when we were going around touring the school, how one department helps the other, and how they do work here,” Woods exclaimed. “It’s astounding how they work together; they are very professional.”

Woods’ first day will be Aug. 1.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Woods concluded. “It should be fun to do. I can’t wait to start.”
