Community supper

Zion Lutheran is once again offering a free drive-thru community supper, from 5 to 6 p.m. today.

The menu is scalloped potatoes with ham, carrots, fresh fruit cup and dessert.

Meeting tonight

The Chestnuthill Township Historical Society meeting will be held at 6 p.m. today at the township Park Building on Route 715, Brodheadsville.

WELL meeting

The West End Little League will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville.

Eldred Township

Eldred Township Supervisors are slated to meet at 7 p.m. the third Monday of the month at the municipal building on Kunkletown Road. To verify the meeting check the website or call 620-381-4252.

Hazardous waste

The collection date for gasoline, antifreeze, motor oil, oil-based paint, insecticides, pool chemicals, fire extinguishers and more begins today from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Military Road in Stroudsburg.

One must register and pay before arriving and make an appointment.

Additional collection dates over the summer include: July 13, July 20, July 23, Aug.10, Aug. 24 and Sept. 21.

Lion of the Year

The Western Pocono Lions Club will be meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Cherry’s in Kresgeville.

At that time, a Lion of the Year will be recognized.

Pantry open

The West End Food Pantry, Kunkletown, is having a distribution from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Men’s group meets

Effort UMC Men’s Group will meet Saturday at 9 a.m. The meeting includes not only breakfast, but a good biblical discussion and fellowship.

SAL clam bake

The Sons of the American Legion Post 927 is holding its open-to-community clam bake from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

It will include fireworks.

150th anniversary

St. John’s Lutheran Church continues to prepare for its 150th anniversary celebration taking place Saturday and Sunday.

The Saturday celebration will take place at the pavilion behind St. John’s church, owned by Effort UMC.

The June 19 worship service will be led by Bishop Christopher DeForest.

Coffee and desert will follow the service.

Strawberry Fest

St. Matthew’s UCC Strawberry Festival, picnic and 18th annual car show will be held in Kunkletown on Father’s Day Sunday, rain or shine.

It will include breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m., worship at 10, and the grill reopening for lunch after the worship service and remaining open until 6 p.m.

Registration for the car show begins at 8 a.m. Trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m.

The entertainment will be by the Brian Dean Moore Band from noon to 2 p.m. and by the Cramer Brothers Band from 3 to 5 p.m.

In addition, Laymen’s Fellowship will be holding a raffle.

Fathers celebrated

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will recognize its men as the father figures in the lives of their families and celebrate God, the Father, as the perfect father at its 10 a.m. service.

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, will also celebrate Father’s Day.

Salem-St. Paul’s will have Holy Communion this Sunday and will also honor fathers.

Wings event

On Father’s Day, this Sunday, the West End Wings, a Sport Model Airplane and Helicopter Club, dedicated to the art of radio-controlled flying and building, will hold its 44th annual Father’s Day event at its field in Effort from 1 to 4 p.m.

Admission is free.

Bingo night

Monday is the SAL bingo night at the American Legion in Gilbert from 6:30 p.m. with cards sales at 6:30 p.m., and then games beginning at 7 p.m.

Women’s Club

The Western Pocono Women’s Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Effort United Methodist Church.

The recipients of the club’s two $500 scholarships will be present to inform attendees of their future plans and the colleges they will be attending. It’s also Fun Night with games and lots of laughs.

The club will be accepting pasta and sauces for the Effort Church Food Pantry.

Serving as the June refreshment committee are Greta Weaver, Isabel Pietri, Phil Bond, Nicole Wagner and Donna Coleman.

Shawl ministry

Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
