Walnutport gives donations to local nonprofits

Walnutport Borough has disbursed budgeted donations to a handful of nonprofit organizations.

Diamond Fire Company in Walnutport was the biggest recipient at $28,000, followed by Northern Valley Ambulance Association ($5,000), Slatington Public Library ($3,000), fire police ($2,000), and Walnutport Recreation Board ($1,000).

Councilwoman Jennifer Wentz said that all of the donations are within the borough’s budget.

In other budgetary matters, Wentz said it was time for department heads to start thinking about their 2023 budgets.

Council in December passed this year’s budget with no millage rate increase, leaving it at 19.25 mills.

That marked the third straight year borough residents did not see a municipal tax rate increase.
