State police at Schuylkill Haven - crashes
State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roadways.
• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 2:30 p.m. on May 20 along Route 443 in Pine Grove Township. Troopers said Michael A. McCall, 32, of Pottsville, was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 truck eastbound and going too fast for conditions when he attempted to brake as a vehicle was turning in front of him. He lost control of the vehicle which left the road and sideswiped a utility pole and then struck road signs, where it came to rest.
McCall and his passenger, Cheyenne M. Krause, 24, of Pottsville, were not injured. The vehicle was towed.
McCall was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed, driving under suspension, required financial responsibility (no insurance) and unauthorized transfer or use of registration.
• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 8:17 p.m. on May 17 along Ryon Lane in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Jason L. Ryan, 44, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo westbound and downhill while John D. Ryon, 37, of Pottsville, driving a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound and going uphill and negotiating a curve. The Monte Carlo entered Ryon’s lane and the vehicles collided head-on.
Ryon and his passenger, Jaime L. Whalen, 40, of Pottsville, both sustained suspected serious injuries and were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.
Ryan was not injured. Troopers said both drivers are facing charges. Charges for Ryon are pending blood test results. Charges are also pending against Whalen, troopers added.
• Two Schuylkill drivers were involved in a crash at 11:14 a.m. on May 13 along Park Street in Landingville borough. Troopers said Catherine D. Celani, 67, of Landingville, was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata when the front right tire blew as she was going around a curve. Charles T. Pishock, 58, of Schuylkill Haven, driving a 1998 Volkswagen Cabriolet, was on the same curve and his vehicle was struck by Celani’s vehicle. Pishock sustained a minor injury but did not require immediate medical attention. Celani was not injured. Both vehicles were towed. Celani was cited for the crash.
• A one-vehicle crash occurred at 2:24 a.m. on May 15 along Cressona Road in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Andrew S. Koehler, 33, of Pottsville, was driving a 2011 Volkswagen Golf northbound when he fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle left the road and struck a tree along the berm.
Troopers said Koehler had a suspected minor injury but did not require immediate medical attention.
Troopers said Koehler was subsequently placed under arrest for DUI.
