Nesquehoning council adds member, loses another

Nesquehoning Borough Council welcomed a new council member to the board, while also accepting the resignation of another councilwoman.

On Wednesday, council voted to appoint Abbie Guardiani to fill the vacancy created by the passing of longtime Councilman Frank Jacobs.

Guardiani has been active in the community, and has worked with the borough in the hopes of creating a blight committee to help fight blight in the community.

In addition, council also accepted Rosemary Porembo’s letter of resignation, but chose to wait on filling the new vacancy.

Porembo’s resignation makes the third spot council had to fill in the last three months.

In other matters, council voted to hire Corey Herring as a full-time police officer in the borough. He had previously worked as a part-time officer and was moved up after Chief Sean Smith and Officer Timothy Wuttke’s retirements became effective May 31.

This now brings the police force to three full-time officers.
