Man charged with assaulting mother after argument over television show
A Lehighton man has been charged with assaulting his mother after an argument over a television show.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Ryan English of the Pennsylvania State Police, Lehighton barracks in the case against James Silvers.
At 12:50 a.m. May 21, PSP Lehighton was dispatched to a home on Sam Brooke Circle in East Penn Township at the request of the complainant who said that an unknown female had arrived at his residence requesting that he contact EMS and the state police because she had been assaulted by her son, Silvers, 43.
Upon arrival, troopers John Heffner and Anthony Kingsley made contact with the victim who was walking in the middle of Lauchnor Road and observed to be covered in blood and speaking incoherently/rambling.
The victim was transported to St. Luke’s Carbon Campus for further medical treatment for the injuries she had suffered.
She was later transported to St. Luke’s University Hospital Bethlehem Campus due to the severity of her injuries.
At around 3 p.m. May 26, PSP Lehighton was contacted by a St. Luke’s Crisis Intervention Service member who advised that the victim related that Silvers had assaulted her, which caused her injuries.
At 12:30 p.m. May 27, Trooper Daniel Magarelli and English conducted an audio recorded interview with the victim at St. Luke’s Bethlehem Campus.
The victim said that on May 21, she was assaulted by Silvers in the living room of her residence, as Silvers struck/punched her multiple times in the facial region, at which time he pushed her to the floor between a table and a chair.
The victim said that before being assaulted by Silvers, they were arguing about a television show, and that she kicked Silvers in the groin in an attempt to stop him from further assaulting her.
The victim said that after the assault, Silvers went upstairs to his bedroom and she ran out of the residence to her neighbor’s house to seek assistance.
As a result of the injuries she had sustained, the victim was intubated and underwent a craniotomy (brain surgery).
English observed the victim’s left and right eyes to be swollen and bruised; she had multiple bruises on both of her forearms and legs; multiple staples on the right side of her head because of the surgery.
Silvers faces charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.
He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing June 22 before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.
