A Luzerne County man admitted in Carbon County court on Thursday that he left illegal substances unsecured in a residence in Weatherly that led to a drug overdose by a then 15-month-old boy.
Troy Alfonso Belt, 31, of Hazleton, pleaded guilty to one count of endangering the welfare of a child for an incident on Dec. 7, 2021, in Weatherly.
Borough police were notified by hospital officials that they were treating a young child for a drug overdose.
Police investigated the incident and determined the child had access to at least five bundles of cocaine in a borough home when he overdosed. The drugs were left out in the open. Belt lived there at the time.
Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the plea but deferred sentencing ordering the adult probation office prepare a presentence investigation report.
