David J. Whipple, 28, of Pottsville, was charged by West Penn Township Police Chief James E. Bonner with driving under the influence, first offense; possession of drug paraphernalia; and operating a motor vehicle without insurance on Sept. 5, 2021.

A bench warrant had been issued for him after he failed to appear for a hearing. He turned himself in on June 3, and Schuylkill County Judge Charles M. Miller reinstated bail at $2,500 unsecured.

He ordered Whipple to stay at his address in Pottsville and not move from there without giving prior notice to his lawyer, the Clerk of Courts, and the district attorney’s office; not operate a motor vehicle without being properly licensed; show up for a status conference at 9 a.m. July 21; pay a $50 bench warrant fee; show up for all future court dates, and not commit any crimes.

Richard M. Catena, 71, of Tamaqua, was charged by Frackville State Trooper Peter K. Conforti with possession of a controlled substance; having a small amount of marijuana for personal use, and possession of drug paraphernalia on Oct. 3, 2020.

Judge Miller issued a bench warrant after Catena failed to appear for a status conference on Feb. 16, and reinstated bail at $5,000 unsecured.

He ordered Catena to stay at his address in Tamaqua and not move from there without giving prior notice to his lawyer, the Clerk of Courts, and the district attorney’s office; not possess or consume any alcoholic beverages or controlled substances; stay out of bars; show up for a status conference at 1:30 p.m. July 20; pay a $50 bench warrant fee; show up for all future court dates, and not commit any crimes.
