Carbon County court

A Luzerne County man admitted to a bad check charge in Carbon County court on Tuesday.

Anthony Joseph Fazio, 44, of Hazleton, entered his plea via video from the state correctional institution at Camp Hill, Cumberland County, before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Fazio was charged by state police at Hazleton with issuing a bad check to JC Small Engine Repair of Packer Township, on Oct. 31, 2017.

Fazio told the court he has been at the state prison for about a month and is still being classified. He is serving a sentence imposed by Luzerne County court. He said his minimum is 20½ months.

Matika sentenced him to serve two to 12 months with six days credit and ordered it run concurrent to the Luzerne County term. He was also ordered to make restitution of $513.04 and pay court costs of over $1,000.

Theft plea

Kory Sponheimer, 34, of Ulster, Bradford County, pleaded to one count each of theft and false reports to law enforcement.

He was charged by Lansford police for an incident on Aug. 10, 2020.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted the pleas and sentenced Sponheimer, to time-served (82 days) to one day less two years on both counts with the terms running concurrently. He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment. He must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
