Tamaqua woman jailed for assault
A Tamaqua woman who refused to leave the Bungalow public swimming pool for insisting on playing loud, vulgar music, and then injuring a police officer, is back in jail under $25,000 cash bail.
Stephanie E. Crute, 37, of Cherry Street, was charged by borough Police Officer Andrew J. Seip with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and simple assault on July 23, 2021.
A bench warrant had been issued for her on Nov. 9, 2021, after she failed to appear for a court date.
Schuylkill County Judge Charles M. Miller vacated the warrant and reinstated bail at $25,000 percentage cash.
He ordered Crute, should she make bail, to stay at her address in Tamaqua and not move from there without giving prior notice to her lawyer, the Clerk of Courts, and the district attorney’s office; not possess or consume any alcoholic beverages or controlled substances; stay out of bars; show up for a status conference at 1:30 p.m. July 21; pay a $50 bench warrant fee; show up for all future court dates, and not commit any crimes.
According to police, they were called to the pool that afternoon because Crute and her two daughters refused to leave after being told to.
The women were loudly playing Cardi B’s “WAP” song, which contains vulgar language graphically describing various sex acts.
Police told the three to leave. They refused, and Crute pushed an officer. When police handcuffed her, she punched them and other people.
One of Crute’s daughters, who was 11 years old, also started hitting one of the officers as he handcuffed the mother.
Crute also kicked the officer as he placed her in the cruiser. An officer needed to go to the hospital due to his injuries.
