Lehigh County crashes

Schuylkill County drivers were involved in crashes in Lehigh County, including one in a multiple-vehicle crash.

• The multiple-vehicle crash involved four vehicles and occurred at 5:35 p.m. on May 17 along Interstate 78 eastbound in Upper Saucon Township. The crash was a rear-end type collision.

State police at Fogelsville said Joseph Digirolamo, 50, of Brodheadsville, was driving a 2021 Hyundai in the left lane and slowed for stopped traffic in his lane.

NE De La Rosa Tolentino, 28, of Reading, was driving a 2016 Honda Civic directly behind Digirolamo while John R. Zeitler, 79, of Naples, Florida, driving a 2017 Jaguar, with Juan R. Rosario Rosario, 45, of Allentown, driving a 2010 Honda CRV, behind him and Sean O. Greenawalt, 25, of Orwigsburg, driving a 2018 BMW, last in line.

Greenawalt’s vehicle struck the rear of the Honda and started a chain-reaction crash.

No injuries were reported. The BMW, Honda CRV and Jaguar were towed while the Honda Civic and Hyundai were driven from the scene.

Greenawalt was cited for following too closely.

• A two-vehicle crash occurred on May 19 at 5:48 a.m. at I-78 and the Lehigh Street on-ramp westbound in Allentown.

Troopers said Erik Silvapinos, 32, of Shenandoah, was driving a 2021 Toyota Highlander southbound on Lehigh Street and attempted to merge onto I-78 when his vehicle struck the rear passenger side of an International-Harvester truck tractor operated by Andre D. Smith, 45, of Bethlehem.

Silvapinos and his passenger, Julio Tovar, 19, of Mahanoy City, and Smith, were not injured. The Toyota had to be towed.

Silvapinos was cited for the crash.
