The Friends of Tuscarora and Locust Lake State Parks will host a 50th anniversary celebration of Locust Lake State Park from 4 to 9 p.m. June 10 at Locust Lake in Barnesville.
The free event is family friendly and features a lineup of activities for all ages.
There will be food trucks, yard games, music, face painting, touch-a-truck, a children’s author and astrophysicist, children’s museum program and activities and stargazing.
The schedule is: food trucks, touch-a-truck, yard games, and face painting, 4-7 p.m.; acoustic bluegrass duo of Cavage and Sudigala from the Hickory Project, 5-7 p.m.; Smokey Bear, 5 p.m.; and Olde Tyme Toy Program by Porcupine Pat, 5:30 p.m. Allison Kline will sing the national anthem and the anniversary ceremony will begin at 6 p.m.
Dr. Julia Kregenow, author of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, I Know Exactly What You Are,” will read her book at 6:30 p.m.
She will bring a scale model of the solar system and answer astronomy questions.
Lykens Valley Children’s Museum will present their “Under the Stars” program with engaging and fun STEM and art stations focused on space at 7 p.m.
At 8 p.m., children will have chances to win books about space. The James Webb Space Telescope presentation will start at 8 p.m.
Stargazing with Berks County Amateur Astronomical Society will be held at 8:45 p.m.
Attendees should bring chairs or blankets.
There will be food and drinks for sale, along with autographed books and 50th anniversary patches.
