Summit Hill parade will kick off at 11 a.m. Monday
Carbon County’s largest tribute to veterans - the Summit Hill Memorial Day Parade - will kick off at 11 a.m. Monday on Ludlow Street in the community.
The three-division parade will be preceded by the traditional Memorial Day services that will begin at 10 a.m. in Ludlow Park, where former Mayor Paul R. McArdle, a U.S. Army veteran and past commander of American Legion Post 316, will be the keynote speaker.
Stephen Figura, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, will be the grand marshal for the parade, which will begin at Ludlow Park, proceed west on Ludlow Street, round St. Joseph Catholic Church and then travel east on White to the cemetery complex at that part of the town.
Figura will have the honor of ringing the former Summit Hill High School bell in Ludlow Park to signal the start of the line of march.
On Sunday, American Legion Post 316 will hold a service at St. Joseph Cemetery in the Bloomingdale section of White Bear. Deacon Joseph Cannon of St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley will ask the invocation, followed by the Roll Call of Soldiers Dead (those who passed away since Memorial Day 2021), the Legion’s firing squad salute, taps and the benediction by Deacon Cannon.
